Will Russia's cutting off its gas supplies to some Eastern European countries have a negative effect on investment properties in Bulgaria and other such countries? Friends of ours were thinking of buying there last year but didn't. Did they have a narrow escape?

Thery had a narrow escape because they'll lose thier money regardless.
Read the other posts about bulgarian property "investment".Its a scam from start to finish.

They don't need gas in Bulgaria, its far too hot there. Don't you know that Bulgaria is "the new Spain" with year round sunshine and packed with apartment renters that never leave the beach. I'd love to be there now, lying on the hot sand and sipping tequilas, surrounded by thousands of sunseekers and watching my investments mature. Instead I'm shivering here in Ireland.

I should have listened to McA.

Nice one Lollix:).

I've been to the Black Sea coastline in mid-March and trudged through the snow of Nessebar, Sunny Beach and Pomorie. If you're going to rent in the winter you're going to have to expand your marketing to the Inuit.

Nah. Didn't you hear the rumour that Sunny Beach is also in line to get a new ski lift, a 400m outdoor ice-skating rink, and an international airport with year-round daily direct flights from Dublin? It's probably gonna be the next big winter sport destination. Look at the quality of the snow. Just you wait.

No way mate.
The furture is in Cape Verde now...thats where the smart money is going.
378 days per year of sunshine, three michelin starred hotels,an international airport in the planning stages with ryanair flights, only ten minutes on the plane further than the canaries and impending membership to the EU,OPEC,SIPTU and WWF.

Buying an investment property in a resort is nuts anyway, some people have made nice money that way, but not many. Its fraught with scams, the gaurenteed rent is the best one, how can inteligent people be duped by this one.

Rule 1. Check out the cost comparisons.
Rule 2. Check out the local Development plan both short term and long term.
Rule 3. Check where the local economy is coming from.
Rule 4. Is there a strong rental market, if so you qualify it.
Rule 5. When you want to realise your investment, who is going to buy it from you.
