Could anyone give me a "ball park" figure for the electrical cost per gallon of pumping well water to my home. Submersible pump fitted on currently disused well ( back up to mains water system). Would like to see if use of this is an option before water charges arrive !. Thank you for any information.
this is a general rule of thumb on basic electricity
A one-horsepower motor is approximately 700 watts.
The motor on a sump pump can be 1/16 - 1/3 HP or bigger ones at 1/4 HP (horse power)
If the pump runs a total of one-hour per day then take the electricity charge that you are paying x the HP of the motor in watts +/- and drag on the motor
Example: for one hour at 250 watts x €0.25/kwh = €0.0625
Think of it similar to turning on a 50 or 100 watt light bulb
