Ruined Suit

Hi
My husband got paint on his suit jacket while at a wedding reception recently (the walls were not fully dry), other people also had their clothes marked
I brought it to the drycleaners but it came back with a note advising me that the paint cannot be removed.
Have I any comeback with the hotel, we did not complain at the time but as I said, we were not the only people with this problem

Contact them first to see what they say and then take it from there.

i have contacted them and they said they will check it out, but what are my options if I get no satisfaction.

It's a shame you didn't mention something on the day to someone.

I'd go back to the hotel & before you talk to anyone, see if you can find where the suit came in contact with the paint and double check it is the same colour. Then locate a manger & say why you didn't want to want to make a fuss on the couples big day. Then show them the suit....how it matches with the paint and the letter from the dry cleaning company. Bring the reciept for the suit also.

The may argue that you should have notified them on the day as they may have been able to limit the damages by keeping the suit damp and getting it straight to a cleaners. But give it a go anyway...Sam h

If they did argue this, you can point out the impracticality of this advice. What would you have been supposed to wear while they were keeping your suit damp or taking it to the cleaners.

Generally in the Hospitality Industry they offer to have the soiling removed, if their or the Customers cleaners can't remove the dirt they replace the garment. If you ring either the Manager or their Customer Service Manager and explain that initially you didn't want to make a big deal of the issue as it had been a Wedding and you wanted to get it cleaned yourself but your Dry Cleaners have advised the staining cannot be removed they may replace, unless they have a specialist cleaners which they would like you to leave the garment to. If they believe they can have the soiling removed by their Cleaners you should take that option, as far as I know if they offer to clean and the Customer refuses the Hotel has then met their legal obligation.
