RTE stand-in presenters

Can anyone tell me how some RTE presenters get prime time slots?

There's a presenter standing in for Claire Byrne who IMO sounds like someone on work experience with too much confidence, generally amateurish and has an annoying accent.

Is it just a "they'll do" approach rather than having any level of quality control?

And it's not just the stand- ins who can be bad. Some presenters are very bad , in my opinion

The stand ins are from what I can see are staff reporters or journalists on RTE payroll.
Colm O'Mongan has stood in and i find him very good.

Agreed. I think Kathryn Thomas is also very good but perhaps I'm biased....

This one is just brilliant.

The first paragraph states that he spent nearly 5 decades in prison. The caption under the photo says that he spent 38 years, one month and 18 days in prison.
I know RTÉ are very prone to sensationalising headlines and aren’t great with figures but that’s really quite bad, even by their low standards.

I like one thing about the guy with the double barrelled name who is filling that seat . He wont let anyone away with waffling and insists that they answer the question that he has actually asked . I have heard him do this on a couple of occasions and it is so refreshing instead of Claire Byrnes habit of allowing guests to spew any ould guff instead of answering a question . This is particularly annoying when politicians are being interviewed and they are all good at it of course having been coached by the ( lack of ) Communications Clinic .

I like him.
I really don't like the woman who does lunchtime on NewsTalk. She's like an even more whiny version of Joe Duffy.
I agree. I used to think she was good when she started on that slot but not any more . She hardly lets people have their say without interrupting them..
Actually she is the full time presenter ..

I don't change station when the ads come on but I do when she comes on. I will listen to RTE radio 1 instead and that's a damning indictment.
