RTE player and Virgin Media On Demand services are useless!

Cabin fever is setting in with this bad weather so I'm on a roll at the moment. Stay outta me way for safety reasons :D

I tried using the RTE Player a few times over the Christmas and found it to be very poor service. I've seen people mention here in the past that even RTE know its useless but don't have the money to do anything about it.

Worse again is the Virgin Media On Demand service. Anyone I mention it to do not even seem to know that it exists. A lot of the time when I try to use it I just get the loading message and it does not become available at all. When I rang them a long time back they said our signal was not strong enough for it to load and they replaced the cables. Not much difference since. Does anyone else use it successfully?
 
I use the RTE Player nearly every day to watch last nights news and weather and find it okay
It got an overhaul during the summer which improved the functionality of the player
My only gripes would be that sometimes when I go in to find last nights six one news it's not there
And they must be using a school kid on their gap year to do the editing of the add breaks as there never right

But other than that I find it's an okay player with a good bit of content some of which actually interests me

I watched one programme on RTE 1 over Christmas and there was a part 2 to it which I missed. When I went to the Player part 1 was there but not part 2. I had to watch it on the On Demand with VM and they only had part 2 and not part 1. o_O
 
Player is fine for streaming something live, I use it for the lunchtime news quite regularly and never an issue. Where there are problems I find is watching programmes back that were shown previously,

In fairness, RTE know this and are looking to update it but it will be next year

I used the RTE player once last year to watch an hour long programme on my phone.
It was a much better experience than the previous time I tried the App.
One thing I did is reduce the resolution to nearly the minimum resolution just to conserve data on my phone.
Same experience with the TG4 player on my phone.
On a small screen the reduced resolution is unnoticeable. To my eyes anyway.
More of less seemless.
