Has anyone any information regarding the opening of the Royal Canal in September of this year. I have cycled most of the Dublin part, over the last year or so, but can't wait to see it brought back to life so to speak, after approx. 50 years

link to Irish times article

I kept a link to this article because I had heard nothing about it. (and have always been interested in the canals).

It suggests that there is a summer of festivities culminating in the opening on september 30th.

Thanks for the replies, especially Purple your reply regarding the wheels on the bike, yes they do have steel tyres. Acon473 thanks for that link too.

I would have thought there would have been a little more talk about this, as there, from what I would see, there would be hugh potential for the tourism industry, which is badly needed.

Ruth Delany & Ian Bath got it spot on, in connection with it opening up in 2010.

Surely boats would start in the Liffey travel via the Royal Canal - Shannon - Grand Canal - Liffey, if not, then why not.
