Mrs. TH has to drive to Tinahely from Dublin NE at the weekend. As I see it, her choices include ..

- M50, N11, Rathnew, Rathdrum, Aughrim, Tinahely
- M50, N81, Blessington, Baltinglass, Tinahely
- M50, M7, M9, exit near Timolin, Baltinglass, Tinahely

AA Ireland suggests the second one. The others are each a similar distance.

Anyone have a view on which is the better 'R' road to drive to Tinahely, i.e.
- Rathnew, Rathdrum, Aughrim, Tinahely
- Baltinglass, Tinahely

Thanks

I'd suggest the M9 route - I don't really trust the route calculation algorithm if the AA site since I notuced that it tries to direct all traffic over the bypass toll bridge, even routes where it's patently not the best option.

Google Maps also suggests the M9.

Personally I'd use the second one myself; however as this is not motorway, it would be only on a weekend I would consider it as it is very direct.

my parents have a house close to there, and they always take the M50, N81, Blessington, Baltinglass, Tinahely way...

Thank you for those replies.

She's decided to take the first choice (M50, N11, Rathnew, Rathdrum, Aughrim, Tinahely) if for no other reason than she's been that route before.

If it were me, I'd be heading for Blassington & Baltinglass ;)

Tinahely native here.

I would never use the N11 route unless absolutely necessary. Usually the best route is M50-M7-M9-R747. The N81 route can be a terror at times.
