Hi all,
I'm a normal PAYE employee who's normal Revenue dealings are usually limited to P45s and P60s. I'm already registered with a PAYE login on ROS for the purposes of claiming tax credits etc...

I feel I've got enough cash in deposit accounts so I plan on getting into the stockmarket and investments to get better potential for growth. Now I want to make sure I can take care of the tax end of this handily so while reading up on this I discovered that Form 11 and DWT can be filed and paid online via ROS which is what I'm looking for.

Now you can't file and pay with the PAYE login so that only leaves me to register under "Self-Employed Individuals, Business and Practitioners"... and this is where I need some assistance.

(1) Since I'm already registered under "Employees (PAYE)" will this mess anything up at all or have any side affects that I should be aware of?

(2) Assuming that I register under ""Self-Employed Individuals, Business and Practitioners" I should select the type as "CGT"(right?) and then I need some Regn. No./ Id No.... and I can get that via Form TR1 Tax Registration??
After that getting the Digital Certificate should be fairly trivial?

This is new ground for me so please indulge me.

I don't think Revenue will allow you register under ""Self-Employed Individuals, Business and Practitioners" unless you meet one of these criteria.

Alright got into contact with them and:
(1) They've advised me to also register under "Self-Employed Individuals, Business and Practitioners"... yes I've explicitly and in no uncertain terms stated that I'm PAYE ..
(2) They've acknowledged that you can't file and pay online via the "Employees (PAYE)" section.
(3) They've also stated "For years previous to being registered for Income Tax you will still be able to use the 'Employee (PAYE)' site to make your claims."

So I'm interpreting this as people who are PAYE and who do Form 11, DWT etc... are exceptions to the normal criteria of "Self-Employed Individuals, Business and Practitioners"....

You won't need a separate Reg No - your current PPS number will remain your identification number.
In future, you will complete a form 11 and this includes a section on CGT.

Thanks for the reply.

Okay have I got this right:
-Applying for a RAN: use my own PPS number here
-Applying for a Digital Certificate: again use my own PPS number here
-Stay away from Form TR1

During RAN application for "Tax Type/Approval No." do I select "Income Tax" or CGT... Though wouldn't Income Tax be inclusive of CGT(CG been an income)... whats the difference for ROS purposes
