I am thinking of covering over the tarpaulin on the shed roof which is leaking, with a more permanent material such as PVC or Metal roofing. If I cannot obtain material cut locally I will try marine plywood which is supplied by the local builders merchant in convenient 8 x 4 sheet and much easier to fit. Any suggestion's on this? would a metal shed manufacturer deliver a roof only?

What is the tarp covering? What's the existing roof structure?

Most proper building providers will stock a few options for roof panels from the corrugated sheets to fancier false tile effect sheets and all the fixings required. Another option is polycarbonate sheets.

Marine ply is overkill unless you plan on leaving it exposed, in which case you'll still need to figure out how to seal joints. WBP ply and mineral felt will do the job.

Its thin planks about 4 in wide on a wood frame, I will not have any cutting or joints because 2 sheets of 8 x 4 ft will cover the whole roof, I just need to seal the apex. With steel, I will have to cut a number of sheets because they do not come in 8x4 they are approx. 10 x 3.
Polycarbonate could be the answer depending on price and sizes provided.

Regular WBP ply and mineral felt might be the most cost effective solution so.
