For VRT purposes does a UK car reg YY55 but first registered 31-01-06 go down as 2006 car?

is a car registered on a 55 plate not first registered in the UK in 2005 and so should go down as first registered 2005 ?
My own was on a 51 plate and so was registered 2001 as was first registered in 2001 in the UK

A 55 car could be bought and registered in say oct O5 or Feb 06.
So how could a car bought in 06 be registered as an 05 over here ???

Anybody have a definite answer for this as I'm meant to be collecting YY55 car first registered on 31-01-06 on Sat. If it goes down as an 05 car over here it's hardly worth my while.

I presumed 05 was Oct 04 to Aug 05 and 55 was Sept 05 to Feb 06.

Is this 100% Does anyone have first hand experience with this?

Yes and Yes - Noah is correct - Revenue will look at the first reg date on the V5, and not at the licence plates. (I think technically UK licence plates should be removed on export from the country but nobody ever checks)

I'm bringing in a 57 (registered Jan 08) car next week, yet it will be registered here as an 08. Noah is definitely right.
