Road Trip USA (East Coast)

Hey All,

Thinking about a three week road trip, east coast USA in Sept. Want to include Washington DC towards the end of the trip. Thinking of starting in Atlanta and working way up! Anyone any suggestions as to the most interesting places to take in along the way or good websites to help with planning of locations to visit?

Maybe get the Lonely Planet USA? I did a similiar trip three years ago and my absolute fave place was Charleston in South Carolina, do NOT miss this place- it's great! Also really enjoyed Key West if you get that far.
