rights when leaving employment

I recently changed jobs.

Final act was to work abroad as a favour to the MD.

I believe I left on good terms.

Due to foreign trip and vacation of accountant things were not finalised.

Currently I am owed monies for underpayment on holidays owed and expenses.

I was on a promise this would be sorted within a month of leaving.

For the last month the excuse has been that "I am too busy, haven't had a chance to calculate".

I reckon I am out about 3k not to be sniffed at.

What would be my best course of action?
Continue to phone and email for the time being.

Any ideas much appreciated.

I presume you haven't got your P45 yet so. Tell them that you need your P45 urgently and they will have to sort out final payments to prepare it. If they won't give it to you try ringing the tax office to say you haven't rec'd a P45 from your previous employer. I have seen cases where a helpful officer will contact the previous employer to chase up the P45. Might put the skids on.

Thanks Clubman

I talked to the MD yesterday on the phone and he has promised me it is a matter of a very busy time for accounts auditor etc,

I will leave it till next week when I have a promise of some movement before I go further.

Will keep one and all informed though.

i would suggest he drops you an email or replies to your one to confirm that payment will be fothcoming

Then you have that as proof while the accounts team get sorted.

Better to put stuff like this in writing (i.e. a letter rather than an email) to make it more formal and to keep a paper trail just in case things get contentious.

Your P 45 is incorrect if you have not received all of the monies due to you. They would need to rehire you and reissue a new p 45.

Just for the side of the employers, it is end of quarter, so maybe his excuse is valid. Im not saying this shouldnt have been sorted sooner just saying the busy week and auditors thing does make sense.

Contact them next week after end of quarter.

Thanks for all the replies will keep everyone informed how I get on next week.

I did get a promise of payment via email from MD.

Will see what happens.

Decided to percervere and continued to make a nuissance of myself.

Have managed to work the figure down to about €500 so not as annoyed now.

Took a little time but at least I didn't have to go down a messy legal route.

Thanks all for the advice.

I presume Frank means that instead of being €3K out of pocket he's now "only" €500 out of pocket?
