I was wondering if anyone knows what your rights are when acting up in the civil service? I have been offered a position for a period of 4 years while someone is on career break, with any additional pay. I have been told that when the 4 years are up my employer will find me another job at my current grade but I wont necessarily get my current job back. Is this correct?

Can you clarify if you will be getting any additional pay for 'acting up'? If not, and that is common in the PS at present, then you will be carrying out a more responsible job for no extra pay. Do you want it badly enough to do it for nothing? In addition, you may not get your current post back - would that bother you?

4 years is a long time and there is a feeling about that long term acting ups will be regularised or compensated in some way when/if things ease. How would you feel if a colleague were to take the acting job if you refuse it?
