Hi I hope you can help
If I pay a web provider to host my info on the net under the understanding that it would have a high profile/ranking,and they do not, what are my rights as a consumer? My problem is that unlike other goods and services,if I refuse to pay them there is nothing physical to refer to.Are there different consumer rights on the web?

thats an umbrella for a lot of different questions, but to take the first - nobody can guarantee you a high profile/ranking on the "web" as the web is made up of a multitude of different sites owned by different people.

well there is somephysical, or at lesast virtual, your SEO (search engine order)ranking. google your company, what page are you on? pay the SEO co. some money, check your ranking again. If it hasnt improved within a given timeframe (these things take time), theyre not doing their job.

Thanks for your input all

I placed a paid ad on a web Directory after a cold call from a sales person, on the understanding that the directory would have a high ranking and that when search words were entered their directory and my listing would appear,I was paying in instalments. On the first week the directory did appear in sponsored links in Goggle but then disappeared during the following weeks,I rang and was told that the problem was being addressed .I left it a few more weeks and nothing changed, after paying them €600 I have stopped paying.(this information is from a similar thread by me that was moved to askaboutbuisiness).
So what I want to know is if my rights as a individual are the same, how can I prove six months in the future that I did not get what I paid for?.

Not legal advise. But how about takeing a screen capture video of searching and not finding anything. In addition and document with screen captures. Also any replies from the company acknologing a problem and that it will be fixed. Something along those lines.

You believed the sales person who was probably on commission?

I have 2 web stores & get these calls every week - I put the phone down fairly quickly. Some I tease asking questions, all will "guarantee" top 3 positions on google search. - All are telling fibs.

You can be top with paid search without any help by buying google adwords. Being near the top on standard search is more difficult and google changes the goal posts regularly to ensure the most relevant sites are at the top.

As regards legality, its a business to business transaction, so consumer rights don't come into play you'd need to go the expensive legal route and even then it would be difficult to prove anything unless it was in writing.

Thanks for that input,I am now clearer in my mind about web services, and what to do next.I should have done more research before I committed to anything.I was shocked to the core to learn that some sales people tell fibs :0 :) but yes I did believe them,so now
I will go down legal route. Thanks to all
