Hi All,

I got the following email from Revolut regarding changes. I use Revolut a few times a year abroad and always found it better value than Irish exchange or banks. I am just wondering is Revoluts advantage declining and are there better options when using it abroad now or is it still a good option or should I look at something else.

Best wishes Michael

We're changing the additional fees charged for currency exchanges on the weekend. We're also updating our Fees page to reflect these changes, based on Section 24 of our Personal Terms.
These updates will apply from 22 April 2025.

What are weekend mark-up fees?

Currently, all customers are charged a 1% fee on all currency exchanges made on the weekend, between 5pm Eastern Time (ET) Friday and 6pm ET Sunday.

What's changing?

We're reducing the fees for our paid plan customers. From 22 April 2025, the following currency exchange fees will apply on weekends:
  • Standard customers will continue paying 1% of the amount exchanged
  • Plus customers will now pay 0.5% of the amount exchanged
  • Premium, Metal, and Ultra customers will now pay no additional weekend fees for currency exchange

Better consider other options as there are really lots of them now with better rates and lower fees. You can try Trade Republic but it's a European bank. And if you need just a money transfer service without any additional banking features, try BOSS Money app. Note that it focuses mainly on money transfers from the US to other countries. They’ve got good rates and low transfer fees and the app itself is pretty easy to use. Anyway, first of all, I recommend checking the terms on their official website. Hope this helps.
