I have a job for a month starting next week and finishing up 31st of Dec (temp role) I am currently in receipt of the dole and mortgage interest supp (€204 pw & €968 pm respectively).

With this new temp role I should be coming out with approx 300 pw (yes big drop in what I used to earn!) So obviously I will be coming off jobseekers but I dont know how in gods name I can pay the mortgage especially in december, along with NTL, elec and credit cards and of course christmas there is no way probably any of my mortgage will be paid.

I obviously have to inform the HSE of my change of situation but would there be any leniancy in them still giving me the interest supplement in Dec especially knowing I will be out of work again come 1st week in Jan?

First of all well done on securing the job!

I presume that you will be working more than 29 hours a week – if so you will not be entitled to claim Mortgage Interest Supplement, & I wouldn’t expect any leeway in that regard, as it is one of the basic eligibility rules.

You should speak to your CWO & explain the situation to him/her. They really have no interest in credit card repayments – the only bills they get involved with are ESB or Bord Gais.

Considering the circumstances you might qualify for an Exceptional Needs Payment, & if your CWO does not suggest this you should ask them for an application form, & hopefully they can help you that way.

Do you know that you can apply for a Clothing Allowance of €150 for yourself under the SWA scheme? If you haven't already done so you should apply for that now.

There is no automatic clothing allowance under the SWA scheme - if there is a once-off exceptional need for clothing it may be granted as an exceptional needs payment, but it's not an entitlement.

I didn't imply that there was. The OP is entitled to apply, & it would be wrong to suggest that they are not. The decision will be made by the CWO.

Going off on a bit of a tangent here but my B-I-L is going back to work as a contractor after being about 8 monts on Jobseekers Benefit. How does he formally inform the SW that he is no linger entitled to JSB

He just calls to the SW office where he signs on and lets them know he's signing off.
