Returning to Ireland from UK

I have been contracting in the UK for the past few years and am now resident and ordinarily resident in UK. I plan to return to Ireland soon.
It is very tax-efficient here for me to wait until mid-april and get annual tax allowance/credits for the 2007-2008 UK personal tax year.
If I then return to Ireland in May can I claim Irish residency and get tax credits for Irish personal tax year 2007? Will I then be taxed in Ireland on my UK income? I obviously want to minimise my exposure to tax. I have been to the revenue website but it is not clear. Would very much appreciate any tips/comments/advice. thanks.
