Returning faulty items - postage

Hi,

I purchased an electronic item online which stopped working. The seller said I should return it by registered post, at my expense.
The cost of postage will be about €13

Seems unfair that I should be out of pocket when the item is faulty.
Is this normal?

thanks

Generally depends on the seller and it should be clearly stated in the terms and conditions on their website. Most sellers ask you to pay for the initial shipping and they will send it back to you at their cost.

It's common enough. I think it is unfair if it is applied where goods are faulty, where the seller should really bear all the burden of putting things right. But the effort of asserting your rights would be so much that the pain might not be worth the gain.

I usually read the terms and conditions on websites. If I think they are slanted against me, I am unlikely to buy from that vendor.

Iif its through ebay/paypal, you have to return at your own cost.

Where did you buy it?

I think it's normal. The seller/supplier would need to ascertain if there is in fact a fault - look at it from their point of view, the item may have abused or damaged in transit or maybe not even have a fault at all.
