Returning Accesories

My wife purchased a scarf and handbag in an upmarket Dublin store last week. She was told three times by assistants that 'there was no exchange on accessories'. She doesn't want to return any of the items, but I'm just wondering what is the official position on this - can a shop unilaterally refuse to exchange scarfs/handbags. Does this not contradict your statutory rights?

No - they are quiet within their rights, unless there is a fault with the product, they are under no obligation to accept returns. And the shop also went to extreme lenghts to make sure your wife understood this prior to buying. Whats the problem, does she want to return them or are you just curious?

Shops in Ireland are actually quiet good with their returns policies which often gives people the impession that they can return whatever & whenever.

No, she doesn't want to return them at all - just me being curious. She was a bit aggrieved by the fact that it was pointed out to her three times - and an assistant took a highlighter and highlighted it on the receipt! My wife hadn't expressed any interest in returning the items. I think she just felt they were a little OTT in explaining their policy.

The store probably has a general returns policy of 30 days, but accessories are excluded from this, so they probably have been told to be 100% certain that customers understand that these items are excluded. It's fair enough & nothing illegal.
