I know some employees of a county council who had to stop working when they reached 65 years, guys on the lorries , litterbins etc I understand that if its in your contract etc. Do county council employees generally retire at 65 as its public sector?
I am asking because an older relative aged 66+ has a part time PAYE job as cleaner /tea lady in a council office. she does a few hours and gets a few bob etc. she is an employee and gets a payslip etc. she is worried if payroll or office manager realise she is 66 and tell her that unfortunately once anyone here hits 65 you have to cease being an employee of the council.
does anyone know anything about this? she is paying PRSI and shouldnt be, and how can she tell payroll about her prsi exemption aged 66+ if she should have quit there at 65?
