restrictions on medical cards

Will the new reduced limits apply to existing card holders or only to new applicants?
 
What I heard was that all pensioner medical cards entitlements would be reviewed.
I don't know if that means we will all have to re-apply.
 
Question re English pension and medical card entitlement.

Please does anyone know if getting a very small English pension entitles one to a medical card. It looks like we may lose our over seventies one. Thanks for any information.

The fact that you have only a small UK pension will not preclude you from a medical card under the EU rules.

Rules are:- If you have a UK pension and NO Irish State Pension you may be entitled and without means testing

If you loose your over 70's card and are thinking of applying for the UK/EU one be VERY VERY CAREFUL on how you fill up that application form

You may be entitled to a medical card under EU Regulations if:
  • You are living in Ireland and receiving a social security payment from another European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) country or Switzerland and you are not getting an Irish social welfare payment, apart from Child Benefit. You must not be employed or self-employed, that is, liable to pay PRSI).
  • You are living in Ireland and working in another EU/EEA country or Switzerland and are liable to pay social insurance contributions in that country.
  • You are living in Ireland and you are the dependent spouse or child of someone employed in another EU/EEA country or Switzerland. You must not be getting an Irish social welfare payment apart from Child Benefit and you must not be liable to contribute to the Irish social welfare system, that is, to pay PRSI on your income.
