We have just bought a second hand house that is 10 yrs old. All the timber (doors, floors, roof) are all timber but have been varnished many times and have an orange colour. I want to strip them down to get a better, more timber look.

What is best way - there is a huge amount of timber to do

Thanks

Sand the floors and re-varnish (stain if necessary). Paint the doors and ceilings. Stripping them is not practical and in any case they will look better painted. Don't go fot bright white, go for an off white and you will have a much nicer finish.

ckmum,

I've done floors before and always hired an industrial floor sander. It's kinda like a lawnmower type of thing....If you get one just make sure you pay attention when the hire shop shows you how to replace the sandpaper. Other then that it's a doddle. You will have to sand around the edges with a hand sander though !
