replacing an existing Velux

Hi,

I have a rotten Velux window. I had Velux come out and inspect at as it was just under 10 years old. They found a problem with the installation so won't cover it.... fair enough.

I need a new S06 window + flashing which is costing going to cost €550 + fitting.

Has anybody had a window replaced before. Surely the amount of work involved is less than installing a new window. It's probably just position and screw into place, no?

I've been quoted €400 to install from a local person. I got the impression Velux would be more, but they are not taking on work at the moment (??) and was given a date of July!

Is €400 way OTT? I was hoping it would be about €200-€250.

check with any local roofer/carpenter - i'd say there would be no problem getting someone out to do it for you - there's tons of builders on short time/out of work at the minute. Approx 3 hours work (depending on accessibility/roof type).

Where u based ?

I'd say with the amount of Carpenters out of work you should be able to get a Velux fitted for €100 max as there is about 2 / 3 Hours max involved in this

thanks for the info.

I'm in North Co. Dublin. I would prefer to get somebody who has done them before so the same problem doesn't happen again.

Just an update.. From an initial quote of 550+400 fitting I am now down to 400+150 fitting :)

I bought the window myself at a local providers and haggled between two places.
I also I asked the provider to recommend a local person they trust to fit it.

So €950 down to €550 :)
