The battery in my of my keys (fob) for a 2008 Passat has gone.

I know the battery is a 3 volt (R2032) Lithium button cell - does anyone know where I can simply buy the battery instead of going to a main dealer??

You can get the replacement batteries at Aldi checkouts - much cheaper than Halfords or a main dealer.

Thanks - do you know what they're called or should I just lookout for a Lithium cell battery??

Any Tesco/ Woodies/ Homebase etc should have them. R2032 will be on the pack.

radionics in rialto are another source.

Most jewelers I would have thought and camera shops.

I would suprised if it has the solder tabs.

Bring the old on with you and compare them.

I would say more likely this one.

It's a CR2032 battery you need. They are Panasonic brand in Aldi, if I remember right.

It is tricky opening up the keyfob at first. Here's a link to a good guide I wish I'd seen before I struggled with my own keyfob for the first time: http://www.riskin.org/vwkey/

I had problems with a new Ford for a couple of years ago and discovered the battery was a rechargeable one, charged from the ignition. It appears there was a widespread problem with them not charging.
