Repercussions of not signing on

I was recently between jobs for a period of three - four weeks. I lived off savings during this time & didnt sign on with social welfare.
Somebody just told me that I lose out on dentist care etc. as I've missed four weeks of "stamps".
I'd been paying tax for fourteen consecutive years up until then.
Should I go back & inform social welfare? I dont want dole money but I dont want to mess up my PRSI contributions.

Normally they will only backdate in extreme cases. They do not accept lack of knowledge (of the regulations) as an excuse.
Perhaps they may allow credits for the 3 or 4 missed weeks. Credits have the same value for pension, as payments.
As for the dental bit, so much of it was chopped in the last Budget there are very few entitlements left in that area
