Hi,

A tenant in my house is on social welfare and getting rent allowance. The allowance is paid directly to him. I think it is the same for anyone renting an apartment also. Not sure about registering as my tenant lives with me in the house and I am below the threshold set. RDGS

There are lots of threads on Rent Supplement from tenants and landlords here so you'll get lots of information on that.

Registering as a landlord is exactly the same whether you rent to tenants on Social Welfare or not.

If your tenant wants to claim Rent Supplement, they contact the HSE for application forms (part of which you must complete), there's no need for you to contact the HSE yourself.

It's paid in arrears.

You can get the money paid direct into a bank account. Give the tenant your account number and get it paid direct.

Depending on the day the tenant takes up occupation, the first payment might be small as the money is paid near the end of the month (in Dublin)
