Not sure if this is the correct place to post or if I should have put this under property investment. Anyway, we are about to start the process of doing up an old house with the aim of renting it out as a holiday home. Are there are legal requirements for operating a holiday home, any structural or safety issues that need to be complied with? We are total greenhorns so would be grateful for any info. We were thinking of doing the two bedrooms ensuite so that we could maybe do bed and breakfast in the quiet periods, again what would be the restrictions imposed on us doing this? Do you have to register a holiday home with Bord Failte or any other body?

Well if it will be something like business and rented out to general public, you should consider public liability insurance.
What goes to legal restrictions you should get proper consultation with your accountant or lawyer. They will tell you everything you need to know, and mostly first consulting costs nothing. So you win
