Renting a property - estate agency fee

Hi,

Does anyone know what fee an estate agent charges to let a property, i.e. interview prospective tenants etc. (The EA wouldn't be expected to deal with queries during the term of the contract as part of the fee).

I have heard ball park figures of one months rent for a property in the south county dublin area - how accurate is this?

Thanks,
WB

In my experience, it would be better to interview the prospective tenants yourself. The estate agency usually just wants to do as little work as possible for as much money as possible. Save yourself the dosh AND get a more careful / reliable tenant, who would have a "face" on the owner of the property.

Agree with Rabbit, if you have the time, source and vet your own tenants.

I did check out a few agents before I let my first property and they all charged the equivalent of one month's rent.

I bought a property and asked the ea. for a list of tenants off thier base list ,I was amazed when they gave me three names and numbers from which I got one tenant, the tenant then did all the leg work.
