Does anyone know the year by year inflation rate for Rental property in Dublin. According to Daft 2007 rate was 8-13%, but I want to get the previous years inflation rates to ensure the price I set the rent at is appropriate to the market. Thanks!

Was there not a temporary spike in rents for a few months in 2007 because a lot people put their properties on the market, trying to sell at the peak of the housing boom?

Now a lot of people failed to sell and have put their properties back on the rental market but the rental inventry on daft has rocketed so rents are likely to fall back again.

Seems pretty logical to me and the large rental and for sale inventries on daft would suggest that rents are about to tumble again.

Try the Daft rental reports. I am not too sure how far back they go. I think that the next report is due to be published next week. You could also try the CSO as they measure rents as part of the general inflation calculation.

The price you set today for your rental property is only related to current market prices in your area rather than past increase/decrease of rental market. Did i miss something?

Absolutely correct bacchus. The OPs request for historical rent inflation data will not help them work out the current going rate for rents in their area. I suggest they check out www.daft.ie and see what similar places in the same area are currently asking for. Unless they have a very high spec property, they should pick a price somewhere in the middle of the range they find on daft, since the tenant has the right to appeal any increases if they find them extortionate.

Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated!
