Rent tax Credit for 2008?

Hi all!

I'm new to Ireland, moved from Sweden last year. I'm wondering about Rent tax credit for 2008. I've registered on PAYE online and just claimed rent tax credits for 2007, and I guess i should recive a cheque for it, was just for 3 months . But should/can i claim it for 2008 or must i wait until next year? What is more benefitial?

No - you can claim it now and it will be added to your annual tax credits. You don't have to claim it in arrears.
 
This credit, IME, is claimed after the event. In other words you need to have your rent receipts for 2008 before making a claim.

If you have paid all of 2008's rent in advance, go ahead and submit a claim now, otherwise submit you claim with your 2008 tax return.
 
thanks, i'm paying monthly with a standing order, and dont get any receipt. i guess I will claim then next year then. But do i get the credits in cash?
 
Mine is given as part of my monthly tax credit. Once I claimed for it initially, this has happened automatically every year.
