Rent Supplement

Hi All,

I was wondering if someone could give me some advice or point me in the right direction. My mother who is in her 70's lives in a property that i own "no mortgage". Due to financial constraints placed on me by the bank for repayments on my own home, the LRPT, and soon to be water charges.

I was wondering if it would be possible to charge my mother rent, and if so would she be able to claim rent allowance or rent supplement.

I know some of you may think me bad for charging my own mother rent, but i have discussed this with her and explained the financial situation and it was her idea.

My initial guess, based on a quick read is that the answer is no


If the answer turn out to be yes, then you will then become a landlord with all that it brings.
