Hi does anyone know my parents are renting our house out and they can claim relief for this under the revenue if they arent working how do they cliam this relief.

What precisely do you mean by "rent relief" here? Rent relief usually refers to a tax credit that tenants get on rent paid to a private landlord.
Are they living in the house and availing of the ?

sorry i mean that we have purchased a second house that we are going to rent out? they are going to rent it but both parents arent working so can they still claim a relief on the house? dad is on the sick?

People I know wanted to rent out a house to their daughter's family, with the daughter claiming rent relief. The daughter wasn't approved for rent relief for the house because it was her parents house. She met the criteria but I think feedback was that the health board shouldn't have to pay the parents to house the girl and her children.
I don't know if the same would apply, child to parent instead.

Can't see why not assuming that the transactions are all legitimate and you meet your normal obligations as a landlord (e.g. PRTB registration, declaration of rental income etc.).

By the way - as far as I know you can obtain PPR benefits on a second property if you make it available rent free to (dependent?) family members in certain circumstances. Just mentioning this in case it might be possible here and more beneficial than having the property classed an investment property. Best to get independent, professional advice on this as I'm no expert.

RE: tax

just checking does anyone know when does the tax be due on a rented property? is it every year etc, also does anyone know an estimate of tax that you would pay on a rented property purchase price 284000 rental income 12000 a year.
