was wondering if someone could help me?

I have been living in ireland for just over two years now - for the first two years i have been living in a property owned by my girlfriend and her brother - i gave them a certain amount of money each week as a contribution to the mortgage (rent). Am i entitled to gain rent relief on this?

This is where i get confused. My girlfriend and i were married in July and since then we have been living in the house together. I am guessing i am not entitled to claim rent relief on the property after this point?

If your (then) girlfriend and brother were not registered as proper landlords/declared the room as a rent-a-room scheme then you could get them into trouble by attempting to claim rent relief. I wouldn't bother if I were you as im sure they gave you a decent price on the rent.

As a married couple, one person cannot claim rent relief if living in house registered in other persons name.
