Given the preponderance of Gardai who are landlords I find this statement, uhm, ironic. Then people who would be more likely to more locations would not HAVE to rent. Who wants to live in a renter in this country, you are treated like a second class person by the landlord.
I'd say all these allowances are based on negotiations for changes to working conditions over the years.
About the rent allowance, if they abolished stamp duty, all employees would be more able to move from one end of the country to another.
Gardai receive generous "removal expenses" every time they have to move. This includes payment of their stamp duty.
Where is the link to that? That is rubbish. maybe at the very senior level when they get relocated (and I have never heard of it) but the rank and file do not get removal expenses or their stamp duty paid.
Very true. If you know any Garda, ask them to show you Section F of the Garda Code.
The discussion here is about cutting costs by stopping a payment made to Guards that seems out of line with payments made to other employments.By the way, one way to make a significant saving in the Gardai budget would be for those lunatics in Mayo to respect the law.

Another way to reduce the costs of the Guards deployed in Mayo is for the Government to bill Shell for their use of Guards as their alternative private security firm, as the banks are billed for for cash-in-transit operations.
BTW, I find the word "lunatics" deeply offensive when used in relation to a group of citizens who are exercising their democratic rights to protest and speak about something they disagree with.

perhaps if you or your family had to live beside a gas pipe you would feel different abou the law!By the way, one way to make a significant saving in the Gardai budget would be for those lunatics in Mayo to respect the law.
