Rent Allowance

Hi,

I am posting on behalf of my brother. He has recently split up with his wife and I am wondering what is he entitled to. He is currently unemployed and claiming unemployment benefit of about €217.00 a week as he has a daughter. That is his only form of income. His wife is still living in their home with their child as the house is in her name only. Is my brother entitled to rent allowance and if he is, what does he need to do?

If he has had to rent accommodation, he may be entitled to Rent Supplement. It depends on the amount of rent he's paying, as well as other criteria (income, housing need, savings if any).
