Please help me..
I have currently bought with the Affordable housing..which i have a lovely apartment..Im never going to sell it I will always keep it. But unfortunalty I was made redundant and I was thinking of going to Austrialia for a year to work over there as there is no jobs here.. My friend said that she would rent it off me for the year...Is this possible and can she get rent allowance like everyone else????

Renting isn't allowed with the affordable housing but its up to you i suppose as to whether or not you do it - your friend won't be able to claim rent allowance on it though because then it would be known what you were doing!

I can understand that, but with all of this with the resession and everything I think they may need to be a bit more flexable..if you cant pay your mortgage???

Could the OP not rent a room as such, i.e. rent it out for however much month (as long as it doesnt go over €10,000 a year).

I heard in certain cases that you can rent it out ,if you have a good enough reason ie sick parent or moving away for a year to work ,i know people who done this .give them a bell and state your case well ,,your friend is renting for the same price etc

hmm yeah but I dont really want to get into it with them jsut in case it falls back on me???

Yeah I would reckon I have a good enough case as im now unemployed due to being made redundant and temping at the mo doesnt pay for my mortgage at the end of the month so its either pay for the mortgage or not really due to the resession???

well ye dont have tell them if ye dont want to i know one case that there house is rented out the last 5 years what they do is leave some bbills in there name to the house a leave a say there renting a room ,as for rent allowance they just knock a few pounds of every month for the tenants so they dont claim and thats it your under the radar .

Sorry to hear about your situation. Likelihood is that you're not going to be able to sell it at the moment. If you could sell it, it would probably be for much less than you bought it for. Therefore it's in the council's interest to let you rent it out and then extend your clawback period. I would give them a ring, I'd say they'll be reasonable.

Yeah I think I will give them a call, its worth a shot..If you hear of anything please let me know..thanks
