You can apply for Rent Supplement, and entitlement, if any, will be based on your current income. If you qualify, it will be reviewed when your OFP claim is decided.
Whether you qualify depends on several criteria, not just the income you're receiving:
- have you been renting privately for 6 of the past 12 months or has your local authority assessed you as having a housing need (i.e. are you on the housing list)?
- is the rent you're paying at or below the max rent limit for your family size and county?
- I assume the children's father is not residing in the same house? If he is, then his income will also be assessed for Rent Supplement (it would also affect your OFP application).
