My daughter is paying €812 a month rent and has told me because it is over €800 she cannot get rent allowance. Is this correct?
She is on a training course for the last 6 month which is about to finish, her husband is unemployed, 3 children. Can someone please advise.

Yes, the regulations for Rent Supplement state that if the rent paid is higher than the maximum limit for the county & family size, Rent Supplement is not payable.

As the rent is so close to the limit, your daughter and her husband could negotiate with the landlord to reduce the rent to the limit. The landlord might be happier to reduce the rent slightly than to risk losing a good tenant.

Thanks gipimann. Seems a bit unfair that they stop it all together, they have already negotiated down. looks like they will have to move

Sounds unfair of the landlord not to reduce the rent. For only 12 Euro, he would be mad to get rid of secure tenants. The rates are set to ensure that landlords are not profiteering from the coffers of the state and in general the limits reflect reasonable rents.

If he is charging more than the market rate, your daughter could report him to the PRTB.
