I have recently seperated from partner and have a daughter of school going age. I am currently living with family but am moving into rented accommodation in two weeks. i work full time and my salary is €23500 p/a. My rent will be €170 p/w but I am not sure if i can afford this and not sure if I am entitled to any benefits. I am paying playschool fees of 140 per month and childcare of €360 per month. I recieve no maintenence and I am wondering if i am entitled to rent allowance, one parent or fis.

Any rent you pay is allowable against tax; get landlord's PPS number and get receipts.

Check with local social welfare office and also look at this http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories

Why is child support not being paid?

My ex partner is not working at present... or at least thats what Im told.

You should be entitled to One Parent Family Payment.

It doesn't matter if your ex is not working, he still has an obligation to help support his child.

solo.ie, rollercoaster.ie and treoir.ie are good sites for single parents.

Absolutely, if necessary Social Welfare can have deductions made at source from social welfare payments or wages when back at work.
