hi i am a single mother of 1 child i opted out of rent allowance and moved back to my mothers as me and my daughters father got back together and decided to save for a house, however we have recently split up and i find myself stuck in a rut. i am working earning 350 euro a week on an apprentiship and get 209 euro lone parent family payment.i wanted to apply for affordable housing and was told i am not earning enough. so now im looking to go back on the rent allowance but was also told that the cwo would probably not see me as in need of housing. is there anyone out there who has applied for rent allowance a second time and suceeded?? i wanted to get off all benefits by saving for a house but find myself right where i started!

i phoned up the citizens advice just to get some info and thats what he told me. it just got me a bit nervous, the welfare officers here are very stuck up you would think its coming out of their pocket. well ill go over 2moro morning and explain my case, the worse they can say is no i suppose.

There is no rule which states that you can't receive Rent Supplement more than once. You are entitled to apply again.
Your wages and One Parent Family Payment will be assessed, although there are some disregards so it doesn't mean you won't qualify.
You apply for Rent Supplement in the area where the rented house is - would that allow you to attend another CWO rather than the one you've dealt with before?

thanks for the replies,

I went to the cwo, she gave me the application form for rent allowance.
but i think i would be better off saving my bo***cks off in my mams and applying for the affordable housing on my own ,as i just found out that you cant be on the council list and affordable housing list at the same time, i would be better off giving it a try first and then if im not eligible i can go for rent allowance.

is there anyone out there who is on low pay and was a able to get an affordable house. at the mo im earning 340euro p.w(apprentiship) and get 105euro lone parents, also is lone parents payment taking into earnings too when applying? just looking to weigh out all the pros and cons of the choices i have.

thanks for the
