Rent-a-room tax return, non-married couple

Hi

Myself and my boyfriend live together but are taxed seperately as we are not married. We rent out a room in our apartment under the rent a room scheme and the money goes into our joint account. I assume we each have to fill out a separate tax return form? Do we each declare half of the income we receive? The total amount is under the threshold.

Unless you are in the habit of sending a return in, if on PAYE, don't even fill up the form - unless you got one in the post with your name printed on it.

If one of you are self employed that person should declare either half or it all, it really is a mute point as there is no tax due.
