We are soon to start renovating our house. We intend to do this well and are conscious of the structural issues involved in removing supporting walls etc. Our neighbour has already indicated that we would be liable if any damage should occur to their propoerty.
The problem is that the two extensions were built together a long time ago. The neighbour has already renovated their extension. We don't know if they structurally reinforced their extension when they revovated (made it open plan). If they didn't do any reinforcing and then we start work on our side, could we be liable for any movement or damage caused?
Should we hire an architect or a structural engineer to protect us legally?
Thanks
