The missus has a clio campus 2006. She noticed an exhausty, rattley noise off it lately and asked me to have a look.

When you rev engine a rattly noise comes from a part of the exhaust area near the front of car. Dont seem to be any holes and pipe is not loose.

Garage man had a quick look(will be doing a proper check next week)and thinks it is the catalytic converter that needs replacing.

Just wondering what happens eventually if that was not replaced and what would have caused it to go in the first place. Car only has 50,000miles on it.

thanks

If its not replaced then you will probably fail the NCT on emissions nex time round.
It could be rusted but seems unlikely with a car that new - perhaps it got scratched of something sometime that caused rust.

It might just need some welding - New cat is going to be costly!

thanks, would I be correct to assume also that you could get engine damage by not repairing it fairly quickly?

Will mention the weld solution to the mechanic anyway.
