What is the best way of removing old mouldy silicone sealant around a shower. Is there a chemical that can be bought ti trmive it. Also what is the best mould proof sealant. Is tec 7 any good ?

Yes there is a product that you can buy in the likes of Atlantic etc, well worth getting,in fact its necessary, put it on the existing sealant, leave for the recommended time and the old ganky sealant just comes away easily.

Its very important that all and I do mean all the old sealant is removed before applying the new sealant otherwise it will fail in a very short time frame, not sure about tec 7 but my opinion is one sealant is as good as any other.

Applying sealant neatly is an art form, dab some fairy liquid on the end of your finger is a very handy (no pun) way of ensuring a professional/tidy finish.

I removed all the old sealant recently with a stanley knife and didn't do any damage.

Don't go near Tec7 as we used it and this is the reason for the removal already mentioned. In a short space of time it became chalky and discoloured and its expensive. Its best IMHO to use clear silicone sealant especially if you are applying it to an already white surface.

There's a little plastic tool that you can get in the likes of woodies for removing silicone & finishing silicone, about €4.

I agree a good clear silicone, if area has been wet or moisture in the air use an all weather silicone

everbuild do a product called "silicone eater" and is very good.comes in a small tube and is applied with a silicone gun,,apply it to the silicone to be removed and leave for about 2 hours,,,and away you go..i would go for the bathroom white silicone as it has a built in anti fungal, also gives you approx 15% flexibitity....
