A friend is renovating his house. He removed a gas fire in order to put in a plug-in electric version. The job was done by a handy man who had great difficulty in locating the supply gas pipe. There was no visible pipe either side of the fireplace like there is in many houses. In any case they have removed the fire now and there is a hole in the ground which has been filled with slow setting cement possibly fire cement. Is this sufficient? Or safe? When I did my own stove at home my gas supply was closed off at the side of the fireplace at a visible copper type pipe. His house was built in 1999 and the only information I could get was that the supply to the fire was difficult to locate. Any suggestions ? I recall getting a certificate on my own fire to say the gas supply had been removed presumably this handyman should supply same ?
