What would you recommend that would not damage the paintwork.
Names of any products you would use would be helpful.

I've used WD40 (oil). Spray on, wipe with cloth .... excellent results.

Lidl/Aldi do offers on cheap cans of WD40 at times.

Have fun!

I have used petrol in the past and it worked really well.
Make sure that you polish the area afterwards with a good car polish like autoglym

Autoglym Intensive Tar remover is great, and it comes off with very little elbow grease too.

My brothers boss always said smooth peanut butter applied then wiped off after 30 seconds always works for him, he owns a car repair shop

Kerosene...Put on with a sponge, leave for 2 mins, tar will start to drip off, wipe with a cloth and wash area will with plenty of detergent!

Hi all, just be wary of using too much corrosive materials on your car.. they will (over time) break down the paint work. tar removal should be used sparingly, and I would recommend specific tar removal car products for treating the car's paintwork... never leave the stuff dry in.. wash well & seal the paint work again using good car wax...
