Remote Employment contract and company trying to change it

Making a role redundant then recreating it by other means is common enough. Think that's a stretch here in fairness. 2+2=47.

Return to office mandates are blunt instruments. Companies are struggling to get everyone back even after these mandates go out.

There are quite a few other tech multinationals with an Irish presence doing significant layoffs at the moment even if these have not hit the Irish media coverage yet. Seems like the tech industry in general is going through one of its regular layoff cycles at the moment due to various industry and geopolitical events and prognostications.

Yeah, nothing new to it. Some are just rescaling after massive hiring during the pandemic to meet demands on their services during that time. Some of the removal of remote work was an effort to save on redundancy but that hasn't achieved the scale of reductions some need,
 
AI is also starting to drive change and redundancies, for example things that were once handled by an agent can now be done via a chat bot.

Tik Tok are restructuring their moderation unit which reviews for inappropriate content and that is driving their redundancies. These are low skilled roles, probably not that well paid. Some of that will get picked up by AI, some of it potentially is a response to Trump and "freedom of speech". Expect social media to get more vicious over the next few years as a result.

AI is driving a change cycle, some of it will be good for Ireland, some of it wont be.
