remortgage house or take out loan

My wife and 2 kids are relocating to London for a year or two for her work.
We are both in reasonably well paid jobs but she is doing a fellowship in London and will get paid very little for it but it will bring her to the next stage of her carer when we move back and will be worth it.
London is ridiculously expensive, (£2000 a month rent, £2,000 a month childcare etc) and with her not having a salary we wouldn't earn enough to cover our costs.

I have a one bed apartment in negative equity and was thinking if we went on interest only for a year that that would help out a lot but doing the calculations that only saves around €375 a month!

Is it possible to remortgage an apartment in negative equity?
Would our best bet be just to get a personal loan for the year?

Thanks in advance for any help

Whatever about your chances of getting a personal loan you cannot remortgage a property in negative equity as there is no equity to release. You already owe more than the value of the apartment so a bank has no surplus security to loan against. Even if you were in positive equity that would be a difficult remortgage to get as these days most are limited to home improvements for example.
