remortgage and structural survey

I own my house no mortgage outstandiing. In process of remortgaging for about 10% of property value to do some renovations mortgage term to age 70. Was approved subject to a an income clarification and valuation. Valuation confirms house is in good condition but the lender is now asking for a structural survey as the house is 100 year old. I feel given the amount I wish to borrow and the security being given for it that it is unreasonable to put me to the expense of a structural survey. Am I being given the run around? or is this normal. Thanks for any advice.

Very normal I would imagine, if they have a policy in place that houses over a certain age need a structural survey they wouldn't even look at the low amount of mortgage, rules are rules in the banks these days!

Thanks hope it is just the norm. I had better stick with it as not many options out there for someone in their mid 50s.
