remodelling/redesigning layout of house

I have purchased a house and thinking of ways to remodel the house layout, any suggestions good websites to view prior to discussing with architects etc.

Want to get ideas of best way to maximise the space, also will be incorporating extension/garage into the house.

Any help appreciated.

Buy a house design software package- take time to measure out your house and model the house as it is.

Then remodel it on screen. This takes time but is well worth while. You can put more time in than an architect will.

OK but an architect brings more to the table than draughting skills, no? If you have a toothache you go to a dentist, you don't buy a book on dentistry- "The Collins Guide to Home Dentistry"

Quite, but in fairness, cloughy did ask for advice as to what to do before contacting an architect. As with hiring any professional, the layman will find a little research is a good investment.

Or then again, you could trust your professional to offer totally independent advice that in no way attempts to maximise his profit on the deal. Whoops, there goes that pig past my window again........
